In a random survey of 524 individuals, 95% of respondents indicated they call the appointment phone number at the doctor's office to schedule an appointment; 75% percent of those same respondents said they would use an online method and/or phone application to schedule their appointment if the option were available.

We all know how the current process of phone scheduling goes, which was reinforced by our survey. Patients are generally on the phone for up to 10 minutes to schedule an appointment.

Other informing results from our survey indicate that when patients call to make a doctor's office appointment:


64% said it takes 0-5 minutes of their time to schedule an appointment by phone

31% said it takes 5-10 minutes of their time to schedule an appointment by phone

70% said they have to go over several slots in their calendar before finding one that works

only 29% indicated they get the appointment they want

25% are placed on hold

19% don't get an appointment for their desired time or as soon as they would like

36% end up booking their appointment two to three weeks out, while 20% book their appointment three to four weeks out, even though nearly every respondent said they ask for an earlier appointment.

Respondents were 48.3% male and 51.7% female and the ages ranged from 18- 65+

$200 ... this is the average revenue lost by a general practitioner from each missed or cancelled appointment.
